General

Anthem is an upcoming online multiplayer action role-playing video game being developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts.

Anthem combines third-person shooter and action role-playing game elements in a “contiguous open world” shared with up to three other players in which they take the role of a Freelancer donning fully customizable exosuits called Javelins. These suits can be customized to have various unique weapons and superhuman abilities.

Players can build relationships with various non-playable characters, but they cannot establish romantic relationships with them, as was a trademark of previous BioWare games. The central meeting point of the game takes place in Fort Tarsis, the central stronghold of Anthem. Built by the eponymous General Helena Tarsis, it serves as a fortified settlement against the threats of the outside world and is also the point where the player goes to receive new missions and freelance assignments. It is a melting pot where all the different factions of the game meet, including the Sentinels, Corvus, Cyphers, and Arcanists.

The game features both single-player and co-operative multiplayer elements in a “shared world” that can have up to four squad members per team. Teams can fight savage beasts and ruthless marauders while exploring lost ruins and experiencing massive, world-altering terrain occurrences, such as “Shaper Storms”

Anthem will be released to the public on February 22nd, 2019.

Javelins

In the world of Anthem, the javelin exosuits are your key to survival in the harsh wilderness outside of Fort Tarsis. They are powerful suits of armour equipped with propulsion and weapons that you’ll need to complete your missions. Javelins are handcrafted by the meticulous work of arcanists, and only expert pilots can unlock the full potential of their exosuits. Currently there are 4 known javelins in game : Ranger / Colossus / Storm / Interceptor.

There are 4 javelins currently announced in game (Ranger/Colossus/Storm/Interceptor). However there is a possibility for additional Javelins to be added in the game later.

At level 2 you will be able to pick which of the 4 javelins you want to unlock As you progress, there will be additional level gates to make another selection until all 4 javelins are unlocked.

Javelins are just suits and therefore do not have gender. There will be no gender variation for the javelin suits, only the freelancer that pilots them.

Factions

The Sentinels are the chief upholders of the law throughout the cities and settlements of Anthem. They believe in justice and order above all else, and see themselves as a bulwark protecting the people from the chaos of the outside world. In the eyes of the Sentinel leadership, the Freelancers are a ragtag outfit whose fierce independence makes them unreliable.

A ferocious militaristic society in the mountainous North. The Monitor, a ruthless Dominion commander, claims to have discovered a way to control the power of the Anthem. If he succeeds, no one will be able to stand in his way. The dominion have known associations with the Storm Exosuit. Some of the Dominion (the Valkyrie) harness the storm suit and fly in their Storm exosuits against you in the struggle for the Anthem of Creation.

An extensive network of intelligence agents, spies, and diplomats, Corvus’ main goal is to scout out threats and remove them without direct confrontation. While they are not above having their operatives engage in targeted sabotage or an assassination now and again, they prefer to contract out any of their messier tasks to third-parties, like the Freelancers.

Cyphers are humans gifted with and rigorously trained in the ability to communicate mentally over long distances, performing complex analytical calculations and processing incredible amounts of information. They serve in support roles to lancers, providing information and analysis during expeditions.

Scientist-mystics who have dedicated themselves to researching the mysteries of the world of Anthem, the Arcanists research both the natural frontier as well as the technological. Their ultimate goal is to gather, categorize, and preserve the complete knowledge of humanity. Their tireless promotion of knowledge and teaching has been directly or indirectly responsible for much of the technological advancement of this world.
